Thinking skiing? Flicks, deals, and other good stuff

November 11, 2008

Warren Miller’s latest ski flick, Children of Winter, is now showing in the Northeast, with screenings slated in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. It’s showing in Portland’s Merrill Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 21, at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. You can preview a trailer and get info on other screenings on the web site.

Speaking of ski flicks, word is that Greg Stump is working on a new film, Legends of Aahhh’s, to debut at Utah’s Sundance Film Festival in 2009. Stump remade the classic ski movies, actually adding great music and plot lines in such classics as The Blizzard of Aahhh’s, License to Thrill, and Time Waits for Snowman. He’s an old Pleasant Mountain (er, make that Shawnee Peak) kid who grew up in Gorham and made his first marks on the freestyle skiing stage.

About those deals and good stuff: The Boston Ski Show slides into Bayside Expo Nov. 20-23. Most of the major gear companies, resorts, and other related goods and services have booths; many hand out discount coupons or promote good deals; and you can find all manner of bargains at Ski Market’s inshow mega sale. In addition plenty of entertainment: aerial shows, rail jams, places for kids to actually try the sport, etc. You can easily make up the cost of entry with the deals. Speaking of which, go to the show’s website for coupons or prepurchase discounts. And save on parking by taking the T.
