Ready to be spooked?

I can’t think of a spookier place to listen to creepy tales than Portland’s Victoria Mansion. Double-dog dare you to take part in this spooktacular night of horror, Friday, Oct. 16, when Tales of Terror returns.

Storyteller Lynn Cullen will read three bone-chilling stories: A Bottle of Perrier, by Edith Wharton; Moxon’s Master, Ambrose Bierce; and The Raven, by the Victorian master of dread, Edgar Allan Poe (and on the anniversary of his 200th birthday, bwaa-haa-haa).

To get you in the right mood, the evening begins with a gaslight tour of the mansion, complete with eerie, 19th-century music. Reservations are required for the two 90-minute performances, once 6 p.m., the other at 8 p.m. Tix are $20, $10 for kids younger than 18 (although the program isn’t recommended for those younger than 12).
